Travelling can make sticking to your exercise routine super difficult. However, staying consistent is very important to ensure you are reaching your goals. Therefore, working out can’t stop just because you’re travelling. Below are a few great ideas for keeping up your exercise whilst you travel.
The best idea is to plan ahead! Make sure you call your hotel and enquire whether they have a gym or not. If they do, then fantastic! If not research the local area and find the nearest gym and contact them about short term passes.
If there’s no gym don’t stress because there are heaps of different way to get your 30 mins a day in.
When exercising on a keto diet we know that there are types of exercise that are better suited. These include cardio types exercises like jogging and swimming; strength training like weight lifting and low intensity sports like cricket or golf. All these types of exercise can be easily added in on your next trip.
A great way to get your cardio in is by using the stairs instead of taking the lifts or escalators. Also instead of catching a ride or ordering an uber to get everywhere instead you should walk. If walking is too slow for you why not try riding a bike. Most cities and even some hotels offer bike hire so you can always find a cheap and quick way around. Don’t forget to check if your hotel has a swimming pool as swimming is a great low-intensity workout. By adding just 30 minutes of cardio a day is a great way of improving energy and weight loss.
If you’re feeling a bit more adventurous you might want to find a local dance club and spend the night burning off the calories through dancing!
If cardio isn’t really your favourite there are always places you can go to do bodyweight exercises, such as a local park. Head down to the nearest park or playground and you’ll find heaps of opportunities to work out, for example monkey bars or even tree branches are great for pull ups.
Another great option is yoga! This can be performed almost anywhere with a bit of space but if your not a pro yet you can easily look up local yoga studios to get in a full body workout.
If all else fails you can do a workout in your own hotel room. Below is a fun and quick 20-minute workout you can do in any hotel room:
- Bodyweight squats 20 reps
- Reverse crunches 10 reps
- One-arm suitcase rows 10 reps (use your suitcase as your weight)
- Incline push ups 15 reps (use a bed, couch or desk)
Repeat until you hit the 20 minute mark!

Don’t push your body too far whilst exercising and if you feel your body struggling its best to stop and re-evaluate your exercise and diet. When undertaking any new exercise routine its best to consult a professional or specialist to get the right information about your body.
